Some of My Friends Read Comics 206 – Catwoman by Ed Brubaker & Darwyn Cooke + Knightfall #13

It’s noir time again as we revisit some Ed Brubaker! This time, we’re covering his Catwoman run with artists Darwyn Cooke and Mike Allred which starts in The Dark End of the Street, a collection that contains two whole stories!

The first is Slam Bradley on the hunt for Catwoman which originally ran as backups in Detective Comics 759-762, and then we jump into Catwoman #1-4 from 2002.

And then it’s more Batman as we continue Knightfall Chapter 13 with a strange Two-Face tie-in from Showcase ’93 #7.

Don’t forget, Chris & Nick will be doing a live recording of the Your Stupid Minds podcast at Comicpalooza in Houston, TX on Friday, May 26 at 4:30 PM central.  They’ll be covering the 2004 Catwoman movie!

Some of My Friends Read Comics 171 – Captain America: Red Menace, Vol. 1 + The Life & Times of Scrooge McDuck #12 (Finale)

It’s been quite a while since we caught up with Ed Brubaker’s run on Captain America. Last time around we discovered that the Winter Soldier is Bucky. And this week we read the next part of that run in Captain America #15-17 and then the Captain America 65th Anniversary Special. There’s a big cool robot in it.

And then it’s finally time for the last chapter of The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck where Huey, Dewey, and Louie finally get to meet their great uncle!

Some of My Friends Read Comics 156 – Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Pt. 2 + Amazing Spider-Man #9

It’s a busy episode! We’re reading Volume 2 of Ed Brubaker’s Winter Soldier run on Captain America where we see those dastardly Russians fill Bucky’s brain with lies!

There’s also a House of M tie-in issue in the middle which we went ahead and red as well.

Then we end things with the debut of Electro in Amazing Spider-Man #9. Thankfully, J. Jonah Jameson also returns to the series after taking a month off.

Some of My Friends Read Comics 148 – Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Pt. 1 + Amazing Spider-Man #1

We’re starting a couple of classics today from very different eras! First up it’s Ed Brubaker’s Winter Soldier run on Captain America, which provided the basis for the second Captain America film. We’re planning to read the whole thing eventually, but for today we’re just doing the first volume.

Then we’re starting our long-read of the first year of Amazing Spider-Man. That’s right, all the way from the beginning. If it’s any good, maybe we’ll read the next 60 years worth as well.

Next Time: Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1-6

Some of My Friends Read Comics 129 – Criminal: Bad Weekend + Marvel vs DC #2

There aren’t main writer/artist pairs in comics who work together as consistently as Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips, and yet we’ve never covered their work!

We finally rectify that by reading a spin-off of their long standing Criminal series called Bad Weekend, in which we learn about all kinds of shady practices behind the scenes of the comic book industry.

And then we keep diving deeper into Marvel vs DC with issue #2.

For DC, we’re covering Gotham Central #12-15 about a murderous rampage from the Joker just days before Christmas.

For Marvel, it’s Uncanny X-Men #143 featuring Kitty Pryde alone at the X-Mansion while everyone is away on vacation.

Join us and see if you can figure out who secretly got drunk on eggnog while we recorded.
