Some of My Friends Read Comics 252 – X-Factor by Peter David: The 2000s Run + Thunderbolts #25

We loved Peter David’s X-Factor so much last time, so we’re going back in for more! Except this time we’re taking a look at his 2005 reboot of the title, coming hot off the heels of House of M and Decimation.

We’ve still got Multiple Man struggling with controlling his dupes, but now we’ve got depowered mutants and an inexplicably omnipotent little girl to deal with.

Then we finish up our long read of Thunderbolts with #25, in which they take down 25 supervillains and we see who’s behind the Crimson Cowl.

Next Time: We finish up Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing run with Volume 6 (Issues 57-64)!

Some of My Friends Read Comics 251 – X-Factor by Peter David: The 90s Run + Thunderbolts #24

Today we’re taking a look at Peter David’s classic run on X-Factor! We get a spotlight focus on Jamie Madrox aka Multiple Man, we meet Strong Guy, and we get a nice new team of mutants to work with.

We’re reading his first arc in issues #71-75 and then jumping forward to a fun therapy issue with #87.

It gets weird.

Then we’re getting to the end of our long read of Thunderbolts with #24, where Citizen V stops being a dudette in the shadows!

Next Time: We check out Peter David’s next run with X-Factor in X-Factor (2005) #1-6!

Some of My Friends Read Comics 230 – Hulk: Rick Jones’ Bachelor Party & The End + Thunderbolts #4

We haven’t read nearly enough Hulk on this show, so we’re looking at a couple different stories by Peter David.

First up is the wedding of Rick Jones from issues #417-419, in which Captain America gets very bashful about a bachelor party.

Then we check out The Incredible Hulk: The End, a one shot about the last days of the Hulk’s life. We’ll tell you why it doesn’t feel like a comic book!

And of course, we continue our long read of the Thunderbolts with issue #4 in which they accidentally gain a new member!

Next Time: The Death of Captain America Pt. 2 (Captain America 2004 #31-36)

Some of My Friends Read Comics 179 – Spider-Man 2099 + The Korvac Saga #8 (Avengers #174)

It’s time to take our first trip to Marvel’s 2099 universe and meet Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099. He’s ruder than OG Spider-Man and he has a drug addiction problem to boot (technically not his fault).

We read the first 6 issues of this series from 1992 before continuing our Korvac Saga long read with Avengers 174. Korvac actually shows up! And he explodes Benicio del Toro!!!

Next Time: Slayground by Richard Stark adapted by Darwyn Cooke

Some of My Friends Read Comics 170 – Hulk: Future Imperfect by Peter David & George Perez + The Life & Times of Scrooge McDuck #11

We haven’t read nearly enough Hulk for this show, so we thought we’d read Future Imperfect by Peter David and George Perez. The Hulk has to stop an evil old version of himself from ruining the future. In just 2 issues, The Maestro manages to make a strong name for himself as a serious villain.

Afterwards, we continue The Life & Times of Scrooge McDuck with part 11 in which Scrooge unfortunately also establishes himself as a serious villain.

Next Time: Captain America by Ed Brubaker Pt. 3: Red Menace Pt. 1 (Captain America (2004) #15-17, Captain America 65th Anniversary Special)

Some of My Friends Read Comics 096 – Spider-Man: The Death of Jean DeWolff + Secret Wars 6

somfrc096

We tried to read Spider-Man: The Death of Jean DeWolff, but I think we must have picked up the wrong comic.

DeWolff, Spider-Man’s long-time friend in the NYPD, was barely in it!

We did get a little story about Daredevil and some villain named Sin-Eater?

And then we talked about politics even though we promised we wouldn’t. Plus Secret Wars rolls on with issue 6!
