Some of My Friends Read Comics 017 – Star Wars: Dark Empire

A long time ago in a continuity far, far away… Dark Horse Comics made a TON of Star Wars comics, more than 500 of ’em. And they kicked the whole thing off with Dark Empire, a story where Luke turns to the Dark Side.

Apparently, this thing was so important that all the Star Wars novels from the 90’s kept referencing it, so we decided to read it and see what all the fuss was about. Join us as we ask the questions: Is Leia a trucker? Is the Emperor a vampire? Is Boba Fett good at anything?

Marvel owns the rights to all these comics now, what with Disney owning everything in the world these days, so if you’d like to read them just head on over to Marvel Unlimited.

AMFARH 039 – White Elephant Holiday Special

amfarh-039

It’s the holiday season, so the guys are getting in the spirit by playing White Elephant, the classic office party game of gift-giving and stealing.

They’ll try to end up with the best gifts in four categories: Holiday Cocktail, Game To Play With The Family, Version of “Santa Baby,” and Movie To Watch With Family.

Along the way they’ll discuss very merry topics like presents that won’t fit in Santa’s sleigh, awkward Never Have I Ever confessions, and sexy babies.

AMFARH 038 – It’s Party Time (One-Year Anniversary Special)

amfarh-038

We’re one year into the show, so happy anniversary to us!

In honor of the milestone, the guys are planning a real rager of the party, and debating details like what Now! artist will perform and what Fast & Furious character will head up security.

Along the way they’ll discuss important topics like the oeuvre of Joan Cusack, Xenomorph job promotions, and how distracting Lenny Kravitz’s penis is.

Saturday Night Love S41E06 – Matthew McConaughey

snl41-06

Alright alright alright!  Failure to Launch star Matthew McConaughey hosts this week’s Saturday Night Love.  Vince brings the party down by talking about homeless mortality rates during the holiday season (seriously, donate your coats you’re no longer using to your local shelter), but Kia and Scott are more than happy to rate and review the show.

Yes, he deserves to host and I hope he does it well!

Some of My Friends Read Comics 016 – Spider-Man and the Origin of the Hobgoblin

somfrc016

The majority of Spider-Man’s most memorable villains have been around since the early days when he was still under the care of Stan Lee, but one of the few mainstays he didn’t create was the Hobgoblin.

In this episode, we take a look at Roger Stern’s run with Spidey to see what makes Ol’ Hobby so much more special than just the Green Goblin with a new paint job.

We also get to witness Peter “THE ANIMAL” Parker in his most ridiculous wardrobe ever.

AMFARH 037 – Ranking Rocky

image

With the release of Creed on the horizon, the gang looks back at the legacy of the Italian Stallion, Rock Balboa.

Not only do they rank and discuss every movie, but they also pit their opinions against those of Sylvester Stallone himself, based on a 2013 interview in which he rated each film on a scale of 1-10.

Other topics include: an appreciation of the male form, multiple whole-hearted endorsements of nationalism, and the shocking reveal of Mr. T’s secret rap mentor.

Saturday Night Love S41E05 – Elizabeth Banks

snl41-05

Elizabeth Banks hosted SNL this past week on an episode filled with Uber jokes and foul-mouthed babies. Also, the boys present their Grand Moynified Moyniverse Theory, where all of Bobby Moynihan’s SNL characters are actually related (Riblet is Drunk Uncle’s son!). And that’s something you can take all the way to the bank!

That Was a Game 004 – James Bond 007: The Duel

We conclude our initial series of James Bond 007 videogames by looking at JAMES BOND 007: THE DUEL for the Sega Genesis.  Released in 1993, THE DUEL stars Timothy Dalton as the British super spy, four years after Dalton last played the role in the 1989 film LICENSE TO KILL.

What we got was a fairly generic early 16-bit platformer.

AMFARH 036 – The ABCs of Rock

amfarh-036

This week we’re going back to school: the school of rock! On this episode, the guys play a game that will require them to know a little about rock n roll history, and a lot about the alphabet.

Topics include: songs that name drop Wichita, unpopular opinions on Nirvana, and people who are not Matisyahu.

Saturday Night Love S41E04 – Donald Trump

snl41-04

Well…that was an episode.

Kia, Scott, and Vince talk about highly watched, really mediocre episode of SNL.  Weirdly, one of our big criticisms of this episode was “Why wasn’t there more Donald Trump?”
